Hi, I’m Dana Shoops and I’m so excited to be a part of Quonset Studios and the local arts community. I began painting at a very young age but like so many, I struggled with the confidence to share my work with anyone but family and close friends. In the early part of this year, I offered a few of my pieces as fundraising items to an amazing non-profit and boy has it been a whirlwind since! Coming out of my shell and sharing my work has been, so far, one of the scariest leaps but one of the biggest blessings of my life. Not only has it opened a whole new world of amazing people and brilliant resources but being able to openly create is almost like having a brand new voice in life. Our city us undeniably home to so many creative people and learning from each of you is my hope.
My inspiration and influence comes from right here at home. Being a native of Memphis, you can’t live here and not notice all of the beauty, nostalgia, culture and history. My work is rustic, richly textured and each piece will leave my studio with a little of my heart tucked inside.
I am a mother to 4 amazing kids and a wife to an incredibly supportive husband who devotes some of his busy life to making beautiful frames and canvases for me to create on. I have no formal education or training in visual arts as I chose instead to study in the field of aircraft maintenance, which I have made my career for the past 25 years.
